How our catalog is organized
Our catalog is 100% open source, using Drupal modules for both our online catalog records and circulation to UCIMC users. Materials are classified into specific collections, such as UCIMC Zines, Books, and Archives. Below is a description of the catalog and how records relate to each other and to users:

- Description:
- Work Records: A work record refers to an intellectual or creative work and contains the primary bibliographic information describing it. A single work record may have multiple child item records, each corresponding to a borrowable copy.
- Item Records: Item records are "children" of a single work record, and refer to individual copies of a book, zine, DVD, etc. held in the library. Item records may have only one parent Work Record. Item records are associated with User Records in the Circulation Module.
- User Records: Users with logins on the website may have materials checked out to them by a librarian or staff member.

- User Records
- User management is maintained through the built in Drupal CMS user management. Roles are identified for increasing sets of permissions: Librarian, Volunteer, and Administrator roles may check out items records to Authernticated Users. UCIMC members receive an Autheticated User login. User accounts are maintained centrally by imc-tech@ucimc.org
- Circulation
- The circulation module was originally developed for Drupal 5 by librarians at the Anchor Archive Zine Library in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We updated the module to Drupal 6 and are using it to circlate all items in our collection.
